[with HN overlay] SANDWICH, MASSSACHUSETTS — A Sandwich police officer initiated a high-speed pursuit Saturday evening that began in Sandwich, continued through Mashpee and Barnstable, and eventually reached reckless speeds of 125 mph on Route 3 in Plymouth before state police terminated the chase over public safety concerns. According to radio transmissions monitored by Hyannis News, Sandwich police had stopped the vehicle earlier. The driver told officers he was headed to his girlfriend’s house just off Route 130. It remains unclear from the radio traffic whether the driver fled that initial stop or whether the pursuit began sometime afterward. (The driver’s name was not mentioned in the audio captured by HN.) The driver, known to pursuing officers, has a history of fentanyl and crack charges. Responding officers were warned he could be under the influence. Multiple marked-lanes violations were observed as the vehicle crossed into Mashpee. Mashpee police officers were notified. Speeds on town roads reached 60 mph. The suspect vehicle turned onto Route 130 southbound near Great Neck Road North. Barnstable police were alerted as the chase approached Route 28. Officers reported the driver was “reaching around” in the front seat. As the vehicle entered Barnstable on Route 28 eastbound, Barnstable units were dispatched toward the pursuit. A Sandwich officer asked dispatch to ask Barnstable units about possible stop sticks while speeds remained at about 60 mph near Jimmy’s Ice Cream parlor on Route 28. The chase then turned north onto Route 149 in Marstons Mills toward Route 6. State police were notified shortly before the vehicle entered Route 6 westbound, where speeds climbed to 110 mph. A Sandwich supervisor ordered all Sandwich units to terminate the pursuit just before the Chase Road exit. State police quickly located and re-engaged the vehicle still fleeing northbound on Route 3 from the Sagamore Bridge area. Pursuit speeds began around 80 mph, quickly exceeded 100 mph, and peaked at 125 mph, according to state police radio traffic. Troopers determined the vehicle was registered in Yarmouth and that the driver had warrants and prior assault-and-battery charges on his adult record. State police units equipped with stop sticks—including one with a StarChase tracking device—moved into position. A state police lieutenant, citing the driver’s weaving through traffic and high-speed passing in the breakdown lane, ordered troopers to terminate the pursuit. Units were authorized to follow from a distance without emergency lights. The vehicle was last seen in the area of Exit 13 on Route 3 northbound in Plymouth. Hyannis News followed the chase at a distance and discontinued coverage at Exit 3 in Plymouth after troopers terminated. Sandwich police were contacted Monday morning for any updates and provided contact information for a sergeant who may be able to release further details. Official updates will be reported as they become available.  The following HN Video highlights pursuit radio transmission, along with HN dashcam footage…  [HN VIDEO  –  PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by George Benson… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
