Mass Maritimed Cadets Struck by Alleged Hit and Run Driver - Bourne, MA (05-18-12)
Firefighters and a medical helicopter crew prepare to transport a reported female cadet of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy to an awaiting helicopter after she and two other people were struck by a hit and run driver. The victims were struck by a vehicle on Academy Driver at the entrance to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Bourne Massachusetts Friday (05-18-12) morning around 1:30 AM. According to fire officials and emergency broadcast reports, at least two of the victims are students at the school. The other two victims were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. About a half hour after the incident, Bourne and Wareham Police located the alleged hit and run driver and vehicle on Main Street in Buzzards Bay . The driver was given a field sobriety test and was seen in a police vehicle in handcuffs. The vehicle involved in the accident is registered in Rhode Island . An East Falmouth woman fell out of a pickup truck and suffered serious head injuries Thursday evening in Mashpee. The woman fell off the truck shortly after 7 pm at Lady Slipper Lane off of Old Barnstable Road in Mashpee, according to Mashpee fire Capt. Kevin Long. A MedFlight helicopter was called in to fly her to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI Long said the department does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
