HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A three-vehicle crash at the Airport Rotary early Tuesday evening sent one driver to the hospital and forced the shutdown of half the busy rotary after a large fluid spill from a heavily damaged pickup truck. Barnstable police and Hyannis firefighters responded to the intersection of Route 132 and the rotary shortly after the collision Tuesday evening. A pickup truck and an SUV sustained major damage and were later towed from the scene. One driver was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening at the time of this report. The third vehicle involved managed to pull into a nearby parking lot, where Hyannis Rescue evaluated the driver. The fluid spill from the pickup truck created a significant hazard, prompting responders to close half the rotary while they worked to clean up the mess. Traffic backed up on Route 132 and Route 28 as crews cleared the busy roadway. Hyannis firefighters and a Capeway Towing team removed fluids and debris from the rotary intersection. A member of the Barnstable County sheriff’s crime scene unit photographed the sprawling scene. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. Additional HN photo…   ABOVE: Shortly after clearing the Airport Rotary crash scene, Barnstable police officers responded to a separate single-vehicle crash on Route 6A in West Barnstable. A car left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. After a quick evaluation by West Barnstable Fire Department ambulance personnel, the senior female driver — the sole occupant — walked away uninjured. Officers later gave the woman a ride to a nearby residence. Her vehicle was removed from the woods and towed from the scene. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
