The incident occurred at approximately 1:17 p.m., prompting multiple 911 calls to Yarmouth Police dispatchers. Responding officers arrived to find the vehicle overturned in the wooded area along the road, fully engulfed in fire. Police attempted to provide aid to the driver, who was trapped inside, but were unable to put out the flames. Yarmouth Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and assumed control of firefighting efforts. Despite the rapid response from first responders, the driver — the sole occupant of the vehicle — succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities are withholding the victim’s name. In addition, three Yarmouth Police officers involved in the rescue attempt were transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. All three officers were treated and eventually released, according to a police source. Responders and investigators worked the scene until after dark, extracting the wreckage and clearing the area at around 5:35 p.m. The crash is currently under investigation by the Yarmouth Police Department in collaboration with the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 508-775-0445. In their statement, the Yarmouth Police expressed condolences, asking the community to keep the victim’s family, loved ones, and the responding first responders in their thoughts during this challenging time.
