MASHPEE, MASSACHUSETTS — A devastating structure fire at a residence in the Lakeside Trailer Park early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one occupant, despite rapid intervention by firefighters who battled heavy smoke and flames to conduct a search and rescue operation, according to a Mashpee Fire & Rescue media statement. The Mashpee Fire & Rescue Department received a 911 call reporting the blaze at Lot 86 Nathan Ellis Highway at approximately 3:19 a.m. Wednesday morning – November 19, 2025. Upon arrival, crews encountered intense smoke and fire emanating from the home, along with reports of a possible person still trapped inside. Firefighters immediately launched an interior attack to extinguish the flames while simultaneously initiating a search for the occupant. The fire was brought under control quickly, but rescuers faced significant challenges due to restricted access and hazardous interior conditions. During extended overhaul efforts to ensure the scene was secure, crews breached an exterior wall to reach the bedroom area. There, they located the victim, who was promptly removed from the structure. Resuscitative measures were attempted, but the individual did not survive. The cause of the fire is under active investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Mashpee Fire & Rescue investigators. Assistance at the scene was provided by mutual aid partners from the Falmouth, Sandwich, Joint Base Cape Cod, and Cotuit Fire Departments. No firefighters were injured during the operation. “Thank you to all assisting agencies for their professionalism and coordinated efforts during this difficult incident,” said Mashpee Fire & Rescue Chief Joseph Peltier in a statement.
