HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN video notes] – A chaotic three-vehicle crash brought Route 28 to a standstill last evening, September 22, 2025, at approximately 7:20 p.m., leaving four people injured and one vehicle flipped onto its roof. The collision, which occurred at the intersection of Hiramar Road, prompted an immediate response from Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters, who shut down all four lanes of Route 28 between Bearses Way and the Cape Cod Mall entrance to manage the sprawling scene. The crash involved three vehicles scattered across the roadway, with debris littering all four lanes and extending onto Hiramar Road. One vehicle, a BMW with an invalid temporary New York paper license plate, was found on Hiramar Road, separated from the other two vehicles – a pickup truck and another car. The violent impact left the pickup truck’s driver with serious injuries, triggering a trauma alert to Cape Cod Hospital. Three other patients, including two minors, sustained non-life-threatening injuries classified as “priority three” and were also transported to the hospital. Emergency crews worked swiftly to clear the wreckage, with flatbed tow trucks removing all three heavily damaged vehicles. Tow operators also applied speedy dry to absorb spilled vehicle fluids, while debris was swept from the roadway to restore access. The Barnstable Police Department is actively investigating the cause of the crash, with sources indicating that citations are likely to be issued to at least one driver. No further details were available at the time of this report. The following Hyannis News video highlights the busy crash scene and emergency response. Barnstable Police and Hyannis Fire Department radio soundbites are also included in the following HN video. The video illustrates how quickly a routine drive can turn into a chaotic nightmare, underscoring the need to always drive defensively, with one’s eyes wide open… [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by The Banana Splits!
