HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A 28-year-old man living at the Winter Street homeless shelter allegedly stole a key fob from a fitness club, took the owner’s Kia Telluride, and then kicked a police sergeant and tried to head-butt an officer while adults and children watched near the Hyannis Youth & Community Center, according to Barnstable Police reports filed in district court.
Kyle T. Galvin faces a long list of charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny from a building, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, second-offense drunk driving, drunk driving while his license was suspended for a prior drunk-driving conviction, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Around 2:47 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, Patrolman Erik McNeice was sent to Fitness 500 after a woman’s key fob went missing. Surveillance video reportedly shows Galvin acting interested in a membership while taking the fob from a basket in the club’s front lobby.
A short time later, a Barnstable officer spotted the stolen Kia Telluride speeding on North Street. Officers stopped it on Bearses Way directly in front of the Hyannis Youth & Community Center. Galvin, who matched the description from the fitness club, was driving.
Officers suspected he was drunk and started field sobriety tests. Galvin quickly became aggressive and was handcuffed. As officers walked him toward a cruiser, he allegedly tried to head-butt Patrolman McNeice and kicked a police sergeant. His behavior continued to escalate until officers took him to the ground. While restrained, he repeatedly screamed “Motherfuckers!” and “How’s you daddy doing motherfuckers!” as adults and children near the Youth Center watched officers put him in leg shackles.
Officers eventually gained control and took Galvin to Barnstable Police headquarters for booking. Hours later he submitted to a breath test and registered a .153% blood-alcohol content—nearly twice the legal limit.
A review of his driving record showed his Massachusetts license was already suspended because of a drunk-driving conviction from November 2025. His record also showed an OUI arrest in 2022 that included charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and negligent operation. That same year he was arrested for a breaking-and-entering in progress; Hyannis News was on scene for that arrest as well.
