HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A quiet night outside a popular Hyannis watering hole turned into a scene of shattered glass and chaos just after midnight Monday when a 24-year-old local woman allegedly went on a knife-wielding rampage in the back parking lot of the Quarterdeck Lounge. Barnstable police were called to 247 Iyannough Road around 12:30 a.m. after a man reported that a woman had just smashed every window out of his vehicle using a knife. Officers arrived within seconds and quickly took Aaliyah Smith, 24, of Hyannis, into custody. HN Photos from the scene show Smith appearing highly distraught and crying as she was detained. Other HN photos show a black sedan with its windows completely destroyed. A Hyannis Fire Department ambulance was called to evaluate a cut on Smith’s hand. She was then placed in leg shackles with her wrist handcuffed to a gurney before being transported under arrest to Cape Cod Hospital. A Barnstable police officer followed the ambulance to keep watch during her treatment. Investigators recovered a knife from a red 2024 Nissan Altima parked at the scene. A plainclothes officer placed the alleged knife used in the crime into an evidence bag. The Altima, which was ticketed and towed for illegally parking in a handicapped spot, is registered to a 31-year-old man with 18 entries on his adult record, including gun charges. The registered owner was not taken into custody. A vehicle parked directly next to the Altima is the one which had all of its windows on both the driver’s and passenger sides smashed out. A Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded to document the knife and the broken glass. Two victims — a man and a woman — were seen on scene explaining the alarming events to investigating officers. Smith now faces charges of malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct. HN Reminder: These are initial details based on police radio transmissions and information from police sources. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
