CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS — A 23-year-old Sandwich man was arrested and charged with operating a boat under the influence after his vessel slammed into a moored boat at high speed on Wequaquet Lake Saturday night, according to a report filed in Barnstable District Court. Sean Davies of Sandwich was operating the motorboat (registration MS9201BY) when it collided with an unoccupied, moored vessel near the Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club at 150 Annable Point Road around 10:15 p.m. on July 11, 2026. Barnstable police and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters responded to the scene. Three people were evaluated at the scene. One young man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a knee injury and a potential head injury. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. Massachusetts Environmental Police Sergeant Aaron Fitzpatrick was notified by Barnstable officers around 10:50 p.m. and took over the investigation. When he spoke with Davies, Fitzpatrick observed slurred speech, glassy and bloodshot eyes, and an odor of alcohol on his breath. Davies, who identified himself as the boat’s owner, told the sergeant they had been traveling fast but could not recall the exact speed when they struck the moored vessel. Davies performed field sobriety tests and registered 0.122% on a preliminary breath test. He was placed under arrest and transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking. A second breath test administered at 12:33 a.m. showed 0.10% blood-alcohol content — above the legal limit of 0.08%. An inspection of the boat revealed several open containers of alcohol, including Cutwater White Russian and Suncruiser Iced Tea and Vodka, along with additional nip bottles. The vessel also lacked the navigation lights required for nighttime operation and did not have an automatic fuel pump shut-off. Davies was charged with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol, unsafe operation of a motorboat, and operating a vessel without the required automatic fuel pump shut-off. HN Reminder: The initial details contained in the above report are based on radio transmissions, information from police sources, and documents filed in Barnstable District Court. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
