The driver was eventually picked up at the scene and driven home by relatives.   ABOVE: Rain put a damper on Memorial Day weekend festivities in Hyannis. Once the skies opened up, the nightclubs appeared mostly empty — and aside from the occasional late-night skirmish, it was hard to believe summer had returned.   Falmouth Police Searching for Suspect After Violent Home Invasion in Ashumet Valley Neighborhood FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — Falmouth police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who broke into a home in the Ashumet Valley neighborhood Monday night, assaulted a resident, and fled before officers arrived. At approximately 9:41 p.m. on May 25, officers responded to Austin Stokes Drive for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, they learned that an unknown male suspect had broken into the residence through a window, assaulted one of the occupants, and escaped. The suspect was not known to the residents. Police conducted an extensive search of the neighborhood with assistance from a Mashpee Police Department K9 unit and a Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office drone team. Despite the coordinated effort, the suspect was not located. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with a stocky build, crew cut hairstyle, and facial hair. He was last seen wearing blue pants and a blue jacket with an emblem on the side. Investigators from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting with processing the scene. Police are urging residents to remain vigilant, keep all doors and windows locked, leave outdoor lights on at night, and immediately report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the incident or surveillance/doorbell camera footage from the area on the evening of May 25 is asked to contact Detective Andrew Loewen at 774-255-4527 ext. 4521 or Andrew.Loewen@falmouthpolicema.gov. The investigation remains ongoing. *** WATCH *** Trooper Pushes Disabled Car to Safety After It Loses Power on Route 6 WEST BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS — A state trooper turned a potential tow into a helping hand early Wednesday morning after a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis lost power on Route 6 eastbound in West Barnstable. The call initially came in as a possible “failure to stop,” but troopers quickly determined the vehicle had completely lost power while rolling down a hill near Exit 68. The car had no working lights and was traveling around 45 mph with marked lanes violations before coasting to a stop at the green traffic light at Route 132. Instead of immediately calling for a tow, the trooper pushed the disabled vehicle into a nearby rest area parking lot — a move made possible by light early-morning traffic and backup units already on scene. (Watch following HN Video…) The driver, who was returning to the Cape from work in Plymouth, was cooperative throughout the stop. He received only a minor citation for defective equipment. His girlfriend, who was heading to her own job, stopped at the rest area to give him a ride home. The vehicle was safely moved off the highway without further incident.
