HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – A Barnstable police officer reportedly observed a black BMW briefly pull into a local hotel known for previous drug activity early Saturday morning around 4:00 a.m. The short visit raised suspicion of possible narcotics-related activity. As the vehicle pulled out onto Route 132, the officer observed several traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop on Lewis Road near the intersection with Bearse Road. During the stop, officers conducted a pat-frisk on a male for weapons. As a knife was removed from him, he allegedly tensed up and began resisting, leading to a physical scuffle. The confrontation landed in the roadside dirt, where officers eventually handcuffed the man. Even after being handcuffed, he reportedly continued to resist and attempted to run from officers. He was eventually subdued and placed under arrest in the back of a cruiser. The man faces multiple charges, including possession of a Class A narcotic, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer, along with additional charges. While Hyannis News was on scene filming, a female passenger was being handcuffed. She was visibly upset and accused the officers of being racist. Police later determined she had an active default warrant out of Barnstable District Court for resisting arrest. She was taken into custody and transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking. Several officers on scene were covered in dirt from the struggle and sustained minor injuries, including cuts, scrapes, and bruises. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to document the officers’ injuries and collect evidence found at the scene. Hyannis News is continuing to gather additional details and will update this story as more information becomes available.
