HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — Earlier this week, HN reported on the arrest of a homeless man on six felony counts of malicious destruction of motor vehicles near the McDonald’s restaurant on North Street. Restrained in the back of a police cruiser last Sunday evening, the suspect cackled maniacally, screamed gibberish and declared to everyone within earshot: “I AM SATAN!” CLICK the following link for HN’s initial report entitled, SATAN STRIKES HYANNIS DRIVE-THRU! “I AM SATAN!” Maniac Vandalizes Multiple Cars at McDonald’s, Cops Say   HN has identified the suspect and obtained court documents revealing that there is much more the public needs to know about Sunday’s alleged vandal — a man who called himself “Satan.” According to a report filed by Patrolman Sean Cleary of the Barnstable Police Department, he was dispatched to the McDonald’s at 175 North Street on Sunday, May 17, 2026, for a report of a man damaging cars. Upon arrival, one of the victims pointed out the suspect across the parking lot in front of 181 North Street. The man was wearing a red hat, blue jeans and a white shirt, matching the description provided by one of the victims. Patrolman Cleary walked over and spoke with the suspect, who was later identified as George Lloyd, 59, whose most recent address is 77 Winter Street — a nearby homeless shelter called “St. Joseph’s House.” According to Patrolman Cleary’s report, Lloyd did not make sense while speaking with the officer. He was unable to stay on the same subject and could not appropriately address the allegations. As Patrolman Cleary spoke with Lloyd, a second Barnstable officer arrived and began interviewing one of the witnesses. The witness reported that Lloyd had been walking through the parking lot damaging vehicles. One witness captured video of Lloyd, which officers requested as evidence. Both officers attempted to take Lloyd into custody. While they were handcuffing him, he tensed up, but the officers were able to control his arms. Lloyd was reportedly holding a box cutter with the blade exposed, which he dropped to the ground during the struggle. Once safely handcuffed, he was secured in the back seat of Barnstable Police cruiser No. 228. A total of six vehicles were found with damage. The damage consisted of deep cuts into the paint from a sharp object. The cuts appeared to penetrate all layers of paint and into the body panels of the vehicles. Several vehicles had lines carved into them; others had letters. The following HN photo shows some of the damage to one of the vehicles.   A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit arrived to document the box cutter and the damage to the six vehicles. Lloyd was transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters, where he was booked on six felony counts of malicious destruction of property. He was advised by the bail commissioner that he would be held overnight without bail until his court appearance the next day (Monday). But the story doesn’t end there. The next day around mid-morning, Barnstable Police squad cars rushed toward the Barnstable Court Complex after a report that Lloyd was trying to climb into fire trucks at the neighboring fire station. HN observed a Barnstable Police Community Impact Unit racing down Independence Drive toward the court complex with lights and siren activated. It remains unclear exactly what happened during Lloyd’s most recent encounter with police. [DEVELOPING] But wait, that’s not all! The day before the alleged vandalism rampage near McDonald’s, Lloyd was arrested for disorderly conduct. According to a report filed in district court by Patrolman Garrett Vaccaro, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, he was dispatched to Pizza Barbone at 390 Main Street for a report of a man wearing a yellow hat and holding an umbrella who was yelling at people and walking in the middle of the roadway. Patrolman Vaccaro attempted to speak with Lloyd near the John F. Kennedy Museum, but Lloyd refused to answer any questions, saying he did not want to speak with the officer. Lloyd was advised to stay out of the roadway, which was busy with downtown traffic. Patrolman Vaccaro then observed Lloyd walk back into the roadway despite the warning to remain on the sidewalk. Several vehicles were forced to stop to avoid hitting Lloyd as he ran into the middle of the roadway. “I observed [Lloyd’s] behavior create a hazardous condition in the roadway and this behavior served no legitimate purpose,” Patrolman Vaccaro wrote. Officers then grabbed Lloyd and removed him from the roadway. He was arrested, placed in handcuffs and charged with disorderly conduct. And finally, HN learned that George Lloyd is actively registered as a Level 2 sex offender. He was convicted in May 2013 on child pornography charges stemming from a case that began when National Seashore rangers encountered evidence of Lloyd living in a tent in Provincetown. Providence Police joined the investigation into a thumb drive and other evidence. Lloyd was convicted on 25 counts of possession of child pornography, according to online sources. According to online sources, George Lloyd — age 45 at the time — was tried in Barnstable Superior Court on 25 counts of possession of child pornography. The charges stemmed from a 2011 federal search of an illegal campsite in Provincetown that uncovered child pornography outside his tent, plus a thumb drive containing hundreds more images found concealed on him at the time of his arrest. By then, Lloyd had already accumulated a criminal history that included default warrants and charges involving false identification. At the time of this report, Lloyd has two open criminal cases in Barnstable District Court (that we know about). And as of press time, it remains unclear whether he is currently free or was taken into custody when officers responded to the report of him allegedly trying to climb into Barnstable fire trucks this past Monday. HN will provide updated information as it becomes available. [DEVELOPING] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Crystal Waters… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
