HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — Two men, including the driver, fled on foot after their car jumped the curb and slammed into the handicap ramp at the Fresh Ketch restaurant on Main Street Monday night, leaving a third occupant behind to deal with investigators. Barnstable police and Hyannis firefighters were called to 462 Main Street around 8:40 p.m. for the single-vehicle crash. When they arrived, the driver and one passenger had already taken off, but the third adult male remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. The out-of-control vehicle came to a stop just inches short of the restaurant’s front wall, sparing the building major damage. Instead, it plowed into a retaining wall, shrubbery, and the handicap ramp railing. Firefighters spread a generous amount of speedy-dry to soak up leaking vehicle fluids while a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit photographed the scene. The third occupant was checked by Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crews but required no further medical treatment. Capeway Towing removed and impounded the vehicle. Barnstable police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and are pursuing leads on the two men who fled.
