A sheriff’s crime scene unit photographed a smashed van windshield and cleaver-sized gashes in a trailer at the scene. By early afternoon, officers detained a man matching the exact description near the corner of Winter Street and Stevens Street. He was placed against a fence as the alleged victim was driven past in a squad car for a positive identification.
