FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — In a coordinated crackdown on suspected drug trafficking, authorities seized more than 400 grams of cocaine and arrested two men residing in Edgartown following a dramatic traffic stop on Route 28, officials announced Friday. The operation unfolded late Thursday evening when members of the DEA Cape Cod Task Force, working alongside the Oak Bluffs and Falmouth Police Departments, tracked a target vehicle linked to an ongoing investigation initiated by Oak Bluffs police. Around 9:04 p.m., a uniformed Falmouth officer spotted the vehicle barreling southbound at over 90 mph and pulled it over. The driver and passenger were detained on-site and transported to the Falmouth Police Department for further investigation. With assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, task force officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle, uncovering approximately 407.85 grams of cocaine, assorted pills, and various drug-related paraphernalia.   Keslley Luiz Xavier, 32, and Mateus Souza de Oliveira, 33, both currently residing in Edgartown, were arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine over 200 grams and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Each was held on $10,000 bail and transferred to the Barnstable County Correctional Complex. “The Falmouth Police Department appreciates the effective leadership and collaboration of the Oak Bluffs Police Department and the DEA Cape Cod Task Force in this investigation and remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community,” the Falmouth Police Department stated in a press release. “We will continue to work diligently alongside our law enforcement partners to combat drug-related activities.” The investigation is ongoing, with no additional details released at this time.
