A cold morning off Race Point turned tragic when the fishing boat Yankee Rose capsized in the rough Atlantic. This sea chanty tells the story the way fishermen have always remembered hard days at sea, with voices together, hands clapping, and boots striking the deck in rhythm.    A hard sea story from Cape Cod.   Listen to this song on BandCamp: https://adamsweet.bandcamp.com/track/fare-thee-well-yankee-rose   “Fare Thee Well Yankee Rose” tells of the fishing boat that capsized off Race Point and the search that followed. A sea chanty of cold water, courage, and the brotherhood of fishermen.   #CapeCod #SeaChanty #FishingLife   Verse 1Three miles off Race Point in the winter tideThe wind blew cold on the ocean wideTwo men worked where the gray swells roseAboard the boat called Yankee Rose   ChorusClap your hands and stamp your toesCall her name the Yankee RoseRolling hard in the freezing seaHold the line and stand with me   Verse 2Morning broke with a bitter galeWhitecaps dancing beyond the railThe hull groaned low where the dark waves closeAnd the sea took hold of the Yankee Rose   ChorusClap your hands and stamp your toesCall her name the Yankee RoseRolling hard in the freezing seaHold the line and stand with me   Verse 3Over she turned in the breaking foamFar from harbor and hearth and homeOne man pulled from the waters coldOne still lost where the tides run bold   ChorusClap your hands and stamp your toesCall her name the Yankee RoseRolling hard in the freezing seaHold the line and stand with me   Verse 4Coast Guard cutters through gray dawn rideSearching slow on the winter tideLantern hearts and watchful eyesSeeking where the lost man lies   ChorusClap your hands and stamp your toesCall her name the Yankee RoseRolling hard in the freezing seaHold the line and stand with me   Verse 5From Gloucester down to Provincetown shoreFishermen bow their heads once moreFor every boat the ocean knowsA prayer goes up for the Yankee Rose   Final ChorusClap your hands and stamp your toesSing it loud for the Yankee RoseBrothers strong on the restless seaStand the watch for eternity   Male Chorus Outro (hand claps and stomps)Hey ho the cold winds blowHey ho the tides all rollCall her name before she goesFare thee well the Yankee Rose
