HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase through the Town of Barnstable last evening, leaving authorities scrambling to apprehend a fleeing suspect who remains on the loose. The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday – November 29, 2025 – when a Barnstable Police patrolman attempted to pull over a sedan near the intersection of Route 132 and Phinneys Lane in Hyannis. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated and fled, initiating a pursuit that reached high speeds. The suspect vehicle barreled down Phinneys Lane into Centerville village before looping back toward Hyannis. The chase came to a dramatic halt when the car crashed over curbs at the intersection of Pine Street and West Main Street, rendering it disabled in the middle of the street. Two pursuing patrolmen were closing in as the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, dashing south into the wooded area behind Cape Winds Resort and Star Market. Officers last spotted the suspect crossing Old Craigville Road, heading toward the ball fields behind the Hyannis West Elementary School. Law enforcement responded swiftly, with multiple cruisers flooding the scene to establish a perimeter. A Yarmouth Police K9 unit arrived and immediately hit the ground tracking, while a Barnstable County Sheriff’s deputy launched a drone for aerial surveillance. Despite an extensive and prolonged search, the suspect evaded capture. Authorities believe he may have possibly been picked up by a vehicle or else slipped through the perimeter before it was fully secured. The search remains active and ongoing as of this morning. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s to mid-30s, approximately 5’9″ tall, and last seen wearing tan pants, a green winter jacket, and a cap. Several neighbors in the vicinity of Hyannis West Elementary School told officers they would check their home security camera recordings for any images of the suspect and call police if they find anything useful. Investigators are actively following leads, and further details will be released as they become available. Residents in the area are urged to report any suspicious activity to Barnstable Police.
