CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS  –  [HN photo notes]  –  A two-vehicle crash on Route 28 near Cottage Lane brought traffic to a standstill at around 6:45 p.m. this evening, with the driver of one vehicle claiming an e-scooter rider caused the incident, according to police and Hyannis. The driver of a pickup truck involved in the collision told authorities (and Hyannis News) he swerved to avoid an e-scooter rider who was in the middle of the travel lane. He reported that the rider, dressed in dark clothing and operating an unlit e-scooter, was nearly invisible until the last moment. The sudden maneuver led to a crash with an SUV, leaving both vehicles in the roadway. Police and firefighters responded swiftly, closing Route 28 and rerouting traffic. An ambulance crew evaluated the drivers at the scene. The pickup truck driver was uninjured, while the SUV driver sustained a leg injury and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment. The e-scooter rider had left the area before police arrived. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit was called to photograph the crash site. The Barnstable Police Department is actively investigating.
