HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS –  A hit-and-run crash in the vicinity of Route 132 and Phinneys Lane led to a chaotic police pursuit of a Ford F150 Thursday morning.  The chase culminated in a dramatic crash on Route 6 westbound in Bourne, causing serious “priority one” trauma to the suspect and major traffic disruptions, according to sources and a Massachusetts State Police media statement. The incident began shortly before 11:25 a.m. when Barnstable Police attempted to stop the F150 (registered out of Quincy) after it fled the scene of a two-car crash on Route 132 in Barnstable.  The BPD quickly called off the pursuit.  The driver, described as a “Hispanic male” in his 20s, refused to stop.  A Barnstable County Sheriff’s unit apparently engaged in the pursuit as it headed onto Route 6 westbound.  (The Sheriff’s unit would eventually disengaged from the pursuit on Route 6.)  State Police had been notified, eventually becoming involved on Route 6.  State Police reported the vehicle reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, weaving dangerously through traffic and using the breakdown lane to evade capture. A State Trooper in an unmarked cruiser trailed the pursuit, while other troopers positioned themselves along Route 6, prepared to deploy stop sticks to halt the reckless driver. At 11:31 a.m., the situation escalated when the F150 crashed into another vehicle after erratic maneuvers through traffic. Troopers swiftly deployed stop sticks, bringing the chase to an end. The driver sustained serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for treatment. No details about the driver’s identity or condition have been released as the investigation remains ongoing. The crash forced the closure of Route 6 westbound, causing significant delays for commuters.  Authorities have not disclosed additional information about the initial hit-and-run or the condition of other individuals involved in the collisions.  (But as you will hear in the following HN Video, the suspect sustained serious injuries, while the other crash victims at two separate crash scenes apparently escaped serious injuries…) The Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.  No further information is available at this time.  The following HN Video contains Barnstable Police and Bourne FD radio transmissions.  The video also contains HN dashcam footage which is NOT in sync with the radio transmissions.  Due to being caught in extremely slow-moving traffic for over an hour, it was impossible for HN to make it to the crash scene.  The video also contains a cellphone image from the Bourne Police Department.  [HYANNIS NEWS VIDEO –  PRESS PLAY]
