HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – In a swift and effective operation, Barnstable Police recovered a stolen black KIA Forte early this morning, detaining three individuals and later arresting a fourth suspect believed to be tied to the crime. The recovery marks a significant breakthrough in a case that began just days ago.
On Sunday, Barnstable Police responded to a report of a vehicle theft at a restaurant parking lot on Ocean Street, where a black KIA Forte was stolen. Early this morning, at around 1:00 a.m., officers received intelligence that the stolen vehicle was spotted in Hyannis, sporting an illegally attached license plate and possibly occupied by four individuals heading toward Scudder Ave.
Patrolman John York eventually located the stolen KIA parked at 288 Scudder Avenue. As can be seen and heard in the following Hyannis News Video, the scene unfolded with precision as officers detained three individuals for questioning. All three were identified, their information logged, and subsequently released as the investigation continues.
The main suspect, a 22-year-old male, was initially able to evade capture. However, hours later, he was apprehended on two outstanding default warrants from Barnstable District Court – one for larceny and another for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and additional motor vehicle violations, according to radio transmissions. Authorities are still actively investigating whether further charges related to the stolen KIA will be filed against the 22-year-old.
Police took meticulous care in securing the vehicle as evidence, avoiding any contact to preserve potential clues. The KIA was towed to Barnstable Police Headquarters, where a member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit will process it for forensic evidence. A Barnstable Police Detective also arrived on scene to advance the investigation.
The recovery initiated by Patrolman York was described as a “good get” by those on the scene. While the investigation remains active, the Barnstable Police Department is working to uncover the full scope of the incident. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
