WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – Yarmouth police have confirmed that Tanner Dennery, 25, of Sandwich, succumbed to injuries suffered during an early morning motorcycle crash last Saturday, October 24, 2026.
According to an initial Yarmouth Police Department media statement, the crash occurred on Route 28 near the Parker’s River Bridge in West Yarmouth. The roadway had recently been reduced to one lane due to ongoing construction and was controlled by a portable traffic signal. Officers arrived to find the 25-year-old operator on the ground with serious injuries; the motorcycle was located nearby in roadside bushes.
Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department performed life-saving measures before transporting him to Cape Cod Gateway Airport, where Boston MedFlight airlifted him to a Rhode Island hospital. Preliminary investigation determined the motorcycle was traveling west on Route 28, failed to stop at the red traffic light, and collided with a jersey barrier positioned in the work zone. Dennery was thrown from the motorcycle as a result.
An earlier Hyannis News report described first responders finding an unconscious adult male, possibly in his early to mid-20s, lying on the pavement near the Parker River Bridge, with the motorcycle in nearby bushes. A Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance transported him to the airport for the airlift. At the scene, a Yarmouth Police sergeant requested an accident reconstruction team and a department detective; a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also arrived to take photographs. The crash area is under road construction, and Yarmouth Police Crash Reconstruction continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 508-775-0445.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to support the Dennery and DeMello families. The page describes the sudden, tragic loss of Tanner, noting that “in a single, shattering moment, everything changed.” It portrays him as “a light in the lives of everyone who knew him,” known for his humor, unwavering strength, and remarkable resilience, and says that “to know Tanner was to love him.” The fundraiser notes comfort in the belief that he was “greeted on the other side with open arms by his beloved mother, Shawna,” and states that donations will help cover funeral, medical, memorial, and other expenses so the family can focus on grieving and honoring his memory.
According to the fundraiser, a funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, part of St. Joseph Guardian of the Holy Family, 167 East Falmouth Highway, Falmouth, MA 02536.

ABOVE HN PHOTOS: 2:00 a.m. — The southbound approach to the Yarmouth Road/Route 28 intersection in Hyannis finally gets an actual finished top layer of asphalt after years of destroying the undercarriages, rims, and suspensions of every long-suffering local unlucky enough to drive it. One worker told HN they should be out of here in a couple of days or so, at which point the project will be “pretty much finished” (aside from a bunch of utility poles that still need to be yanked). We shall see. Not holding my breath.
