HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — Shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Barnstable Police responded to a loud noise complaint at Aselton Park on South Street and found a disturbing scene: one man severely injured and bleeding from a forehead wound with his eye bulging out, the other passed out and unresponsive. Officers arrived after a caller reported a group “yelling on the green.” The injured man, a Hyannis resident, was bleeding heavily. Police immediately requested rescue. A Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crew treated him and loaded him onto a stretcher. As he was lifted into the ambulance, he mumbled what sounded like, “I love everybody.” He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. The second man, 27 years old, remained unconscious at first despite officers using sternum rubs and pressure points. When he finally came around, he was highly intoxicated, unsteady on his feet, and considered a danger to himself. He cooperated while being handcuffed and placed in a cruiser for transport to Barnstable Police Headquarters in protective custody. An initial conversation with police indicated the man could possibly be new in town, having been here for only around 48 hours. Police were still trying to figure out where he was from at the time of this report. Police first ensured both men were safe—one receiving medical attention, the other secured in custody. Investigators are still piecing together what happened before their arrival. It remains unclear whether a fight or assault caused the serious head injuries. The investigation at Aselton Park is active and ongoing, with no further details available at this time. Note: HN is working on audio and video from an earlier high-speed pursuit from the overnight that started in Sandwich, crossed into Mashpee and Barnstable, got onto the Mid-Cape, and sped over the bridge into Plymouth at speeds over 110 MPH. The pursuit was terminated due to reckless driving. HN will hopefully release the audio later today. Stay tuned! P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by The Prodigy… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
