On This Day - August 2nd (2023)

It was a full day at the Cape on that August day in 2023. I spent part of the day taking photos with a 830nm Infrared filter. It gives photos a otherworldly effect. This is a photo of the Coast Guard Station at Coast Guard Beach on the National Seashore of Cape Cod. This photo was taken during the day.   Infrared       Beach Fire   Later that evening we had a beach fire with members of my family. This requires getting a permit from the National Park Service and finding firewood, something which is not easy to do on an spit of land that basically sand. My nephew managed to find some, and we enjoyed a lovely evening on a warm summer night as we watched a moonrise over the ocean.       The brilliant white light is coming from a fishing boat, sadly not a UFO as I first thought   Family           History of the Coast Guard Station  

One of the original nine stations was constructed at Nauset. It was located about 350 yards southeast of the present building. Shoreline erosion compelled the construction of a new station. The old station remained in service until 1937, when it was replaced by the present structure. The present building was in service as a Coast Guard Station until 1958.   The building is now the Cape Cod National Seashore’s residential environmental education program facility. Known as NEED, it offers educational groups an opportunity to experience the natural and historical wonders of Cape Cod. The building is not open to the general public, but visitors are able to walk around the grounds and enjoy the ocean views.    Information from the Eastham Historical Society
