FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — An early-morning house fire on Red Brook Road claimed the life of a man in his 70s Friday despite aggressive lifesaving efforts by first responders. Falmouth firefighters and police raced to 15 Red Brook Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. July 24 following a neighbor’s 911 call. Arriving crews found heavy fire pouring from the rear of the single-family home and thick smoke billowing from the front door. Working together, firefighters and police removed a person from the burning structure and immediately began lifesaving measures. The older adult was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. Firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the blaze, but the home is a total loss. Mutual-aid crews from Joint Base Cape Cod, Mashpee, and Sandwich provided both direct support at the scene and station coverage, enabling a coordinated multi-agency response. “The fire was challenging and involved coordinated work between Fire and Police,” Falmouth officials said. The origin and cause of the fire remain under active investigation by the Falmouth Fire Department, Falmouth Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office. Statements confirming the details were issued jointly by Falmouth Fire Chief Jeffrey Lewis, Falmouth Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois. [FFD image/ HN edits]
