MARSTONS MILLS, MASSACHUSETTS — Barnstable police and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash into a tree at the intersection of Old Falmouth Road and Route 149 shortly before midnight Wednesday evening. Due to a language barrier with the caller, it was unclear whether anyone was injured, prompting a full emergency response to the scene. Fortunately, responders found that both occupants had already self-extricated. After evaluation by ambulance crew, neither required transport to a hospital. The driver and passenger remained on the scene, were fully cooperative, and showed no signs of impairment. At the time of this report, there was no indication that the driver would face any criminal charges. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.     ABOVE HN PHOTOS: Barnstable Police officers recently provided early-morning backup for a state trooper conducting a traffic stop on Main Street in Hyannis. The trooper searched the vehicle while three young women were told to remain in front of it. One of the passengers became noticeably agitated and vocal about the traffic stop taking too long, while the other two urged her to “chill out.” After cooperating with the trooper and completing brief field sobriety tests, the driver was free to leave the scene. Nobody was placed in handcuffs, despite one of the women pushing the boundaries with everyone on scene — including her friends. It remains unclear why the trooper conducted the stop, why he searched the vehicle, or whether the driver received a motor vehicle citation. The key point is that because the other two passengers kept “cooler heads” and remained cooperative, the situation did not escalate and everyone was free to leave — to possibly dispute the stop later in court if needed. Moral of the story: Drama makes things worse, while cooler heads generally prevail. (Please make a note of it…) P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Charlie Daniels… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]
