Above HN photo: A young Yarmouth Police Patrolman congratulates Barnstable Police drone pilot Officer Maxwell Morrow [right] after Friday morning’s successful capture of a domestic battery suspect…         WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — A Barnstable police drone pilot turned a domestic battery call into his second high-profile capture of the spring Friday morning, helping Yarmouth officers snare a suspect who had just beaten a woman. The fleeing suspect had already been under a restraining order, according to radio transmissions. Yarmouth police and an ambulance crew responded to the West Yarmouth address early this morning for the injured woman, who was quickly transported to Cape Cod Hospital. While she was being treated, officers launched a ground search for the male suspect in his late 40s. With the Mid-Cape unusually quiet, every available Yarmouth patrol unit, state troopers, and a K-9 team flooded the area. After immediate foot and dog searches turning up nothing, Barnstable Police Patrolman Maxwell Morrow — already a proven police drone Ace after tracking down a repeat car burglar in Hyannis in April — was called in to assist Yarmouth officers with his trusty drone. Batteries were swapped multiple times as Morrow methodically scanned surrounding neighborhoods. CLICK the following Hyannis News link to read more about Officer Morrow’s previous capture entitled, HYANNIS REPEAT CAR BURGLAR NABBED IN DRAMATIC POLICE DRONE MANHUNT, COPS SAY    Then – over two and a half hours into the search – Morrow’s drone spotted the suspect in a wooded area near Johnson Lane. A swarm of Yarmouth officers and state troopers immediately tightened the perimeter and moved in. The man was taken into custody without further incident. Around the time the victim was discharged from the hospital, officers were able to deliver the news that the man who had just assaulted her was already in custody. A Yarmouth police sergeant was overheard on scene crediting Patrolman Morrow for the capture, which likely would not have happened without him. The sergeant also added his thoughts regarding skillfully flown police drones being the wave of the future. Additional HN Photo:   ABOVE: Barnstable Police were called to a violent disturbance inside a bar on Main Street, Hyannis Wednesday evening.  According to sources, a man visiting from Buffalo, NY (seen in handcuffs above) is being charged with A&B on a Person Over 60.  The Buffalo man got the worst of the altercation, suffering a possible broken jaw, along with facial lacerations.  He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.   Additional HN Photo:   ABOVE: A two-car collision briefly closed Route 28 in Hyannis earlier this week.  A source tells HN that a couple visiting from New Hampshire were inside a Tesla being operated on Autopilot.  The accident occurred just after the Tesla was switched out of Autopilot, which contributed to the vehicle possibly lurching forward, according to the source.  The other vehicle contained several Barnstable High School students.  It was determined there were no injuries after the New Hampshire couple and three BHS students were all evaluated by Hyannis FD Rescue.  The Barnstable Police Department investigated the crash.  No further details available at this time… Additional HN Photo:   ABOVE: An all-too-common Hyannis sight: both the driver and passenger seemed deeply engrossed in their cellphones while in traffic earlier this week… which caused me to wonder who was actually paying attention to the road ahead.  We see this every day on our roadways, people on their cellphones in traffic… and it seems extremely dangerous.  And it remains uncertain whether this particular vehicle was equipped with Autopilot… (not that it would make any difference in terms of safety…) *sigh*  Additional HN Photo:   ABOVE: “Make Way for Ducklings…”  A mom and her ducklings safely made their way across Gosnold Street in Hyannis earlier this week.   No texters or vehicles on Autopilot were observed in the area — thank God!
