Responding officers learned that one of the parties involved may have brandished a knife before leaving the scene on foot. The incident occurred while parents were picking up young children from an early learning center in the same parking lot. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating. IN OTHER NEWS: Barnstable Man Convicted of Raping 18-Year-Old ‘Niece’ Figure in Truro Home He Was Working On BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS — A Barnstable Superior Court jury on April 30 found Richard Reynolds, 52, of Barnstable, guilty of rape following a six-day trial. In August 2015, Reynolds, then 41 and considered an “uncle” figure by the victim, took the 18-year-old woman — who had been in the United States for roughly one month — to a Truro home he had been contracted to work on and forcibly raped her, according to prosecutors. The victim did not come forward until February 2023. After five hours of deliberations, the jury convicted Reynolds on the single count of rape. His bail was immediately revoked; he remains held pending sentencing on June 4. The case was investigated by Lt. Steven Raneo of the Truro Police Department, with assistance from the Wellfleet and Barnstable police departments. It was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Isaacs, chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, and Victim Witness Advocate Deborah McCoy. Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois credited the victim’s courage in testifying and said additional allegations involving the victim’s younger sister will be prosecuted at a later date.
