HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – A structure fire tore through a residence at 210 Walnut Street late Wednesday evening, forcing four residents from their home and prompting a swift response from local authorities. Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters arrived around 10:00 p.m. on February 19, 2026, to find the building nearly “fully involved,” leading to immediate evacuations and a street shutdown. The fire, which appeared to have caused the most damage in a former garage area, required firefighters to cut through a garage door and wall to access and extinguish the blaze. A large rooftop solar electricity system had to be disconnected during the operation, adding complexity to the efforts. The following HN footage from the scene captured crews concentrating their attack on the garage space, battling a steady amount of smoke while checking for hot-spots. Captain Ryan Clough of the Hyannis Fire Department confirmed that all four residents evacuated safely and were medically evaluated on-site, with no need for further treatment. No pets were inside the home at the time. Nearby neighbors from an adjacent residence were also cleared out as a precaution, though they returned once the fire was under control. Walnut Street was closed from Bumpus Road to Linden Street to facilitate emergency operations. The displaced residents have secured temporary accommodations for the night, according to Clough. Damage to the property is extensive, rendering it uninhabitable. No firefighters were injured during the response. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with Hyannis Fire officials actively investigating. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted by documenting the scene with photographs. HN will provide additional official details as they become available. [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY]
