HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – The suspect who dramatically bailed from a crashed sedan and vanished into the woods during a high-speed chase through Hyannis and Centerville Saturday evening was back behind bars… until he was released again on “bail” Monday evening.     Christopher Newell, 35, of Hyannis, was taken into custody Monday evening by Barnstable Police, ending a 24-hour manhunt that followed his second police pursuit in eight days.   Newell now faces a long list of charges from Saturday’s incident, including failure to stop for police, reckless operation, operating with a suspended license, operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, number-plate violation, speeding, marked-lanes violation, and failing to stop at a stop sign.   The Saturday pursuit began around 5:30 p.m. when a Barnstable patrol officer attempted to stop a sedan near Route 132 and Phinneys Lane. Newell allegedly floored it, leading police on a wild ride through Centerville village before crashing the vehicle over curbs at Pine and West Main streets in Hyannis. He then fled escaped on foot into wooded areas near Hyannis West Elementary School despite a large perimeter, K9 track, and drone search.   It was the second time in a week that Newell ran from Cape Cod police.   On November 22, Yarmouth Police Detective Nick Ambrosini stopped Newell’s Chevy Impala in a Wendy’s parking lot for an expired inspection sticker. Knowing his license was suspended, Newell bolted, hopped three backyard fences, and only surrendered when he landed in front of Yarmouth K9 Fredy. He was arrested that night for operating on a suspended license, resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property.   Newell was expected to be arraigned today – Tuesday, December 2, 2025 – in Barnstable District Court on the new charges. The investigation remains active and Newell is currently back on the streets, according to police sources…    The following HN Video contains video footage this past Saturday’s pursuit, along with actual police radio transmissions… [HN Video  –  Press Play] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by The Pretenders… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
