Great information from our friends at the Environmental Police. In addition to the Environmental Police advisories, hunting is PROHIBITED on all Harwich Conservation Trust property.  Those properties are: Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve Muddy Creek Headwaters Preserve Coy’s Brook Woodlands Cornelius Pond Woodlands A. Janet DeFulvio Wildlife Sanctuary Boardwalk Lee Baldwin Memorial Woodlands Headwaters Drive/Hinckley Pond Eco Restoration ProjectShotgun season opens on Monday, and we’ve noted a pattern of preventable violations during shotgun deer season, and we don’t want anyone to lose a good hunt over some of these simple mistakes. Please take a moment to review and avoid these common issues: * Respect posted property and municipal authorizations: written permission is best for posted/private land; hunt on town/city land only where the municipality has authorized it. *Wear the legally required blaze orange: at least 500 square inches of blaze orange on your chest, back, and head during shotgun and primitive firearms seasons. It’s essential for visibility and safety. *Observe legal discharge setbacks: no discharge within 150 feet of a road, and no hunting within 500 feet of an occupied dwelling. *Do not hunt from aircraft, motor vehicles, or off‑highway vehicles (including snowmobiles). These methods are prohibited. Unless hunter has a certain disability allowance. *Carry your valid hunting license and current deer or bear tags, in print, at all times. Do not carry duplicate tags or those of another person, duplicates are illegal and shall be seized if found as well as detached tags. A quick gear and paperwork check before you leave can keep you in compliance and help ensure a safe, successful hunt.
