SOUTH YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS —  A traffic stop turned into a heart-pounding pursuit Saturday evening – 11/22/25 – when a local man bolted from his car, leaping fences and dodging cops before a police dog forced his surrender. Christopher Newell, 35, was reportedly behind the wheel of a Chevy Impala in the Wendy’s parking lot when Yarmouth Police Detective Nick Ambrosini pulled him over for an expired inspection sticker shortly before 7:00 p.m. Things escalated fast, as Newell, reportedly driving on a suspended license — an arrestable offense — suddenly exited the vehicle and took off on foot. The chase spilled across Old Town House Road toward Aurora Lane, where Newell is said to have vaulted three residential fences, leaving damage in his wake. Hot on his heels, officers closed in, but it was Officer Liam Breen and his K9 partner, Fredy, who sealed the deal. As Newell cleared the third fence, he landed face-to-face with the determined and capable Yarmouth PD K9 team. Remembering a past bite from a police K9, Newell wisely chose to stop and surrender, sources say. With Newell in cuffs, officers returned to the Wendy’s lot to secure and search the Impala before towing it away. Back at Yarmouth Police Headquarters, Newell faced booking on charges of operating on a suspended driver’s license, resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property for the wrecked fencing. He also earned a citation for the expired sticker. No one was hurt in the ordeal — officers emerged unscathed, and Newell avoided injury by calling it quits when confronted by Fredy. No further details were available at the time of this report. HN Reminder: The initial details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions and information on scene. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
