SOUTH YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [Based on a Yarmouth PD media statement]  – A sharp-eyed cop’s routine patrol turned into a month-long bust, nailing a woman currently residing in Sandwich for running a sex trafficking ring out of grocery store parking lots. It started in early September when Officer Jefferson Willis, on evening shift, spotted two cars pull up side-by-side in a lot. A woman hopped from one vehicle to the other, stayed a few minutes amid fogged windows and a glowing interior light, then exited adjusting her skirt before speeding off. According to the YPD media statement, Officer Willis pulled over the driver’s car and ID’d her as Rina Hernandez-Alcantara, 38, currently residing Sandwich. Her shaky story screamed red flags. Digging deeper with a Spanish interpreter, he uncovered an alleged crime most foul: Hernandez-Alcantara was shuttling the passenger to multiple men for paid sex acts, orchestrating it all via fake names and WhatsApp cash drops, according the YPD statement. Teaming with local, regional partners, and the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office, cops secured a warrant. On October 22, just before 4 p.m., Willis arrested her in a traffic stop. Charged with Trafficking of a Person for Sexual Servitude, she posted $500 bail and faced arraignment in Barnstable District Court the next morning. Yarmouth PD hailed the takedown as proof of their vow to shield the vulnerable — and urged tipsters: Spot trafficking? Call now. It could save a life.
