BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN photo notes] – A check on a disabled vehicle turned into an arrest late Sunday evening when a Barnstable Police sergeant discovered a car with two flat front tires on Phinney’s Lane around 11:00 p.m. The unusual condition of the vehicle raised suspicions of a possible recent crash, prompting further investigation. As the sergeant approached, it reportedly became clear the situation involved more than just a mechanical issue. Another cruiser arrived to assist, and shortly after, the sergeant radioed that the driver was under arrest for Operating Under the Influence (OUI). A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit arrived to photograph evidence. The suspect, identified as Rafaela Vieira De Aquino, 30, of Marstons Mills, was allegedly uncooperative during the OUI investigation and refused to participate in field sobriety tests, according to sources. Hyannis News arrived at the scene after De Aquino had been transported to Barnstable Police Department Headquarters for booking. De Aquino faces charges of Operating Under the Influence and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Authorities have not confirmed whether the vehicle was involved in a crash prior to the arrest. No additional details or images were available at the time of this report. HN reminder: All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
