HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN Video Notes] – A brazen break-in suspect’s attempt to turn a Winter Street home into his personal lounge was cut short this afternoon when Barnstable Police swooped in, nabbing him after he was caught on camera casually smoking cigarettes and possibly even sunning himself shirtless in the backyard!
At approximately 2:15 p.m., Barnstable Police descended on 123 Winter Street after the homeowner, monitoring his property remotely, spotted an intruder on his security cameras. The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Kyle T. Galvin, was seen puffing on a cigarette amidst scattered lawn equipment, seemingly unfazed after allegedly breaking into the unoccupied residence. At one point, Galvin reportedly stripped off his shirt, possibly to soak up the sun in the backyard of the residence he’s accused of invading.
The homeowner alerted authorities and contacted the rental property manager, who arrived on scene to provide officers with critical details about the residence’s layout. Security camera still images, shared with police, offered a clear view of the suspect, who was promptly recognized by a patrol officer as Galvin, a known figure with a lengthy rap sheet.
A computer check revealed a lengthy list of criminal entries on Galvin’s adult record, including Assault, Breaking & Enterings, Larcenies, Destruction of Property, and Stolen Property offenses. Adding to his troubles, Galvin had two active arrest warrants –- one for an alleged probation violation and another for larceny.
With the suspect still inside the residence when officers arrived, Barnstable Police deployed a K9 unit to assist in the search. After methodically clearing the home, officers located Galvin and took him into custody without incident.
Galvin was transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters, where he was booked on one count of felony Breaking and Entering in the Daytime and one count of felony Vandalism, according to Lieutenant Kevin Fullam of the Barnstable Police Department.
The homeowner’s quick thinking and reliance on modern security technology played a vital role in bringing the suspect to justice.
The following HN Video captures the tense moments leading to Galvin’s arrest, with exclusive footage of Barnstable Police surrounding the Winter Street residence, paired with actual police radio transmissions.
HN Reminder: The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
