DENNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – The Dennis Police Department is urgently seeking public assistance to identify the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday, August 23, 2025, that left a South Dennis resident, their passenger, and their beloved dog, Lucy, injured.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Main Street near the intersection with Farm Lane. According to police, the victim’s vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling at an excessively high speed. The impact was so severe that it caused the victim’s car to lose control and roll over. Both the driver and passenger sustained injuries, and their 3-year-old, 12-pound Shipooh, Lucy, suffered a fractured pelvis.
Lucy was immediately rushed to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists at 79 Theophilus Smith Road in South Dennis for emergency treatment. She faces a lengthy recovery, including surgery to repair her pelvis, with estimated costs around $5,000, excluding initial emergency care expenses.
While the victims were unable to get a clear look at the suspect vehicle due to the sudden nature of the crash, Dennis Police investigators, led by Officer Daniel Flynn, identified the vehicle as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, likely manufactured between 2011 and 2016. Evidence collected at the scene, including damaged car parts such as a broken fog light, indicates the suspect vehicle likely has front-end damage.
The Dennis Police Department’s patrol and detective divisions are actively investigating, analyzing car parts, and searching for video footage of the fleeing vehicle. Justice for Lucy and her family is paramount and the DPD is committed to solving the case.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact Officer Daniel Flynn at the Dennis Police Department. The public’s help is critical to bringing the responsible party to justice and supporting the victims’ recovery.
