SOUTH YARMOUTH, Massachusetts – A man, formerly of Dorchester, arrested early Tuesday morning, is no stranger to law enforcement, according to Yarmouth Police radio transmissions. At around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning – 12/12/2023 – Yarmouth police officers were dispatched to an address on Willow Street after a “homeowner” spotted a prowler on his Ring camera. The homeowner was not home at the time, and the man he spotted was allegedly trying to get into his garage. Responding officers were told the subject appeared to be wearing gray pants and a hooded sweatshirt. Officers arrived quickly and it didn’t take them long to encounter a male in the area who matched the description. Officers spoke with David Ferrell and learned he is no stranger to law enforcement. A computer check informed officers that Ferrell is formally from Dorchester in the city of Boston, that his driver’s license was suspended, and that he had no active arrest warrants. (A YPD media statement later updated Ferrell’s current address as being somewhere within the Town of Barnstable.) The computer check also revealed that Ferrell has 58 entries on his adult record, and 27 entries on his juvenile record, which were mostly related to trespassing and drug charges. But it also revealed he had no history of Breaking and Entering charges, according to radio transmissions, and officers initially decided to cut him loose… … but they also apparently managed to keep an eye on him. Meanwhile, the resident who was traveling back from off-Cape was in the process of sending officers actual Ring Cam images and video of the prowler. And that’s when the plot apparently began to thicken… According to a radio transmissions, officers eventually received the images and video while their investigation continued to unfold. Officers learned there had been a quantity of cash inside a vehicle parked outside the homeowner’s residence. And as you will hear, a decision was eventually made for several officers to reengage with Mr. Ferrell outside of a nearby TD Bank. An arrest was made, and the suspect was transported back to YPD Headquarters. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to document evidence. The homeowner arrived shortly after the arrest and was also transported back to police headquarters to “identify his property.” The YPD later put out a statement which read: “Early Tuesday morning, Yarmouth Police officers were called to a South Yarmouth neighborhood after a concerned resident reported a suspicious person trying to get into their garage. When the officers arrived, they determined there was no entry into the garage but discovered a vehicle in the area had recently been entered. A short time later, a man matching the suspicious person’s description was located by officers on bicycle in West Yarmouth. Through the course of their investigation, officers found evidence of the break-in in the man’s possession. David Farrell, 42, of Barnstable was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and breaking and entering a vehicle during the nighttime…” The following HN “video” highlights actual YPD radio transmissions related to the investigation as it unfolded… [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Susanna Rigacci y Ennio Morricone…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
