HYANNIS/BARNSTABLE, Massachusetts –  A 29-year-old man from Marstons Mills who is accused of threatening hotel staff by entering the front office without clothes on, while holding a knife and at least one syringe, jumping up on the front desk counter and smashing one of the hotel’s computers, was eventually arrested in the middle of Rte. 132 jumping onto vehicles in traffic, while covered with blood, and was said to be likely high on drugs, according to several police sources.  And most of the man’s alleged “buck wild” rampage (which allegedly included a number of things not fit for print) was reportedly seen by many witnesses and caught on hotel cameras!  As you will hear in the following HN Video, at around 8:00 p.m. last evening, Barnstable police officers were called to the Best Western Hotel on Route 132 for a report of a man with no clothes on attacking one of the workers inside the hotel.  Moments later, responding officers reported the man had made his way into the middle of Rte. 132, where he was said to have been trying to jump on vehicles… … and he actually made his way onto the hood of at least one vehicle, according to sources.  The man was reportedly covered with blood when officers needed to go “hands on” with the naked man.  While being taken into custody he allegedly spit on one of the officers.  The man was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital in police custody with at least two cruisers following the ambulance.  No officers were seriously hurt, but at least one officer needed to be taken out of service because of “contamination issues,” from coming into contact with blood and other bodily fluids.  (All of the officers involved in the arrest were said to have been contaminated to some degree.) There was reportedly blood on and inside at least one police cruiser.  There was also blood on the roadway and other vehicles.  At least one vehicle went to nearby police headquarters, reporting a damaged windshield.  A section of Route 132 needed to be shut down for a period of time while officers made the arrest, according to radio transmissions.  A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded to both the hotel and police headquarters to photograph evidence, damage and blood.  Officers never found the knife that was reportedly seen on video in the man’s hand while he was up on the counter.  But officers did reportedly find a syringe jabbed into the windshield wiper of one of the vehicle’s that went to police headquarters to report vandalism.  It is believed the man was staying at the hotel, which was full of visitors when the rampage was reported.  Officers reportedly entered one of the rooms, photographed and collected evidence that was said to be drug related.  Cameron Gortz, 29, whose last known address was in Marstons Mills, is accused of committing a number of crimes, according to police.  He was still in police custody at Cape Cod Hospital at the time of this report, but once released from the hospital he is expected to be arraigned on two counts of Disorderly Conduct, A&B on a Police Officer, Vandalism, three counts Open & Gross, and several counts of Malicious Destruction (including malicious destruction of a motor vehicle).  HN is trying to obtain more details – check back for updates.  The following HN Video contains still photographs of police officers investigating the scene at the Best Western Hotel.  It also contains actual police radio transmissions… [HN VIDEO –  PRESS PLAY]   P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Randy Newman…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!]    *  HN NOTE:  The initial details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions and information from sources on scene. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
