The banks needed bailing out because they had stolen and lied. The banks and investment houses had stolen our money, had greedily and dishonestly raided the money in our pensions, leaving us to start saving all over again for retirement. They had written so many bad mortgages and sold them to so many "suckers," such as our 401Ks, that they had to commence foreclosure proceedings on millions of Americans' homes.
And right there, right when you figured we had been kicked into the dirt enough, just as you were trying to adjust your life to the most massive theft of privately owned funds (our funds) by U.S. financial institutions, including your friendly corner bank, President Obama announced that these criminal institutions were "too big to fail," and that we would have to "bail them out" in money that would come from our taxes for perhaps two generations. The U.S. Fed printed trillions of dollars (our dollars) to save the thieves who had just finished ripping us off
No one was arrested for either of these recent thefts of our money. The super-rich actually got a tax break. The Supreme Court ruled that the millionaires who were running for Congress could count on extra money when they ruled incredibly that money is the same as, and has as much rights as, any individual Americans' right to free speech. This immoral and unethical ruling destroyed the reputation of the U.S. Supreme Court. It will never get it back. Its rulings will not be taken seriously again by average Americans.
The ruling also made it possible for corporations, banks, investment houses, drug companies and insurance companies to pay for political campaigns for individual candidates, who then act as agents for these industries once they are elected. They are not in office to help you; they are there to help their benefactors. You are not on that list.
Follow this: We have had our rights stolen and watered down by the pro-business members of the Supreme Court. One is actually married to a member of the Tea Party - a very active member of this fringe right-wing political party. Chief Justice Roberts is a public liar, having said at his Congressional Hearings held to decide his fate, that if he received the seat on the high court he would not change any laws with precedent, with standing. But he lied. He lied to Congress. Perjury is what that is called when you do it.
The banks stole our money, they stole our retirement, they took our homes, the Supreme Court took our rights and changed our political system into something far worse than democracy. The president, instead of punishing the banks for their massive theft of our funds, actually rewarded them with even more of our funds to bail them out. The largest government bail out in history.
And this can not be said enough. So far not one banker has gone to jail.
But the corporate-run U.S. government is not through stealing from us. Far from it. They have more plans to grind our futures and those of our children and grand children into the dirt. Just when you thought they had stolen everything you had earned, they have come back. And guess what? They want more.
Let's forget for a moment that the corporate government has not made any sacrifices. Let's forget that they have shipped millions of our jobs overseas in fixed trade deals, designed to benefit only themselves. Lets forget the corporate U.S. has rewarded the rich while ripping us off. Let's forget they have allowed the bankers to steal our money and to go free. Let us forget that the sacrifices they made actually fell on us and not on them. Yes, they will ask for a smaller defense budget, What do they care? It is the working stiff who's going to lose his defense job. Yes, they will take money out of social programs that help the poor. Again, what do they care. What are they giving up personally?
The question arises again and again; What is the government's sacrifice? Are they going to pay for the free health care they and their families receive, the best in the world, that is paid for by our taxes? No. Are they taking any cuts in their pay, benefits and pension plans, as many of them have insisted of our blue collar workers? The answer is still no.
Remember now, these Republicans are the same ones so quick to charge Democrats with trying to start a class war, simply by pointing out the stark differences in wealth in this country. This Republican Party is now openly conducting a class war against some of the most impoverished people in the U.S., and working people as well.
They know how the nation was robbed and they know who robbed it. And they took care of it with help from the Democrats, they made our banks whole again on our backs, and extended tax breaks for the wealthy, many of which also applied to themselves.
Now they want what they call our "entitlements" Remember the social security that might help you out in your retirement now that the banks have stolen you pension? The corporate government of the U.S. is looking for ways to get that from you now. They want to degrade your already degraded medical care (Medicare, Medicaid). They have even discussed making changes to wounded veteran's medical care and compensation.
In Wisconsin they have tried the ultimate theft of workers rights, saying they were going to balance the budget once again on our money, on our backs and on our benefits. These same people who thought it was perfectly logical to give trillions of our tax funds to the banks, would now like to send us to our graves poor.
But they may have played the wrong card this time. They made the mistake (so did the news media) of believing that most Americans were against unions. They were wrong. Americans in most polls are 60/40 pro union. So their plan to destroy unionism isn't going so well. They might have to give up on their hopes to do away with collective bargaining. It is possible that their clamor to wreck everything working people have ever fought for has exposed them for who they really are.
They are the bad guys in this class war. And yes, it can now be said accurately that this is a class war. It can also be observed that we will not lie on our backs and allow the corporate U.S. to run over us. We will fight back.
And we will win.
