Oh how many ways can the U.S. State Department kiss China's butt before it gets it right?
How many times can our president defer to China's president, just another police state strongman; we've seen them before. There is only one difference between the so-called Communists or my time and the Communists of today. The Communist of today wants your money, even if he has to take you into a dark alleyway, beat you up and steal it. In my time, our penchant for material things was seen by the Red Chinese as our greatest weakness. Now they see that same desire for material goods as their strongest attribute. What is happening here? Are we the victim of the long con? Where did the Red go in Red China?
It is like the old saying - keep your friends close, your enemies closer. Is this what we're doing with China? If this tactic of diplomacy is in use by our State Department, why don't we see the same U.S. behavior toward North Korea or Iran? We don't hold lavish State Dinners for them. We barely even talk to them. We treat them like this because we know they don't like us one bit. In fact, they believe the earth would be a better place without us. Has the U.S. fooled itself into believing China feels any different, especially when a few well-placed words by China to either of those other nations would help us greatly in our relations with them? We have asked China to do this; they have refused.
In fact, China refuses to do anything we ask. China apparently does not like suckers and butt kissers and our diplomatic corps has yet to learn that lesson.
U.S. corporations tiptoed over to China and hired all their young men for near-slave wages And they built our iPhones and iBook and I this and I that. They build your Motorola phone, your cameras, your household appliances, your furniture, and they build all of it pretty badly. But that's okay. You can just pick up a new one free of charge. Now they build cars, or vehicles they call cars. Even Consumer Reports has been calling them cars, so they must be cars.
Did you know that the U.S. charges a 2.5 percent tariff on Chinese goods entering the U.S.., while China charges the U.S. a 25 percent tariff on U.S. goods entering China? The U.S. has a China trade deficit of $252.4 Billion. That is a lot of money but we spent much more bailing out our banks last year. And besides, most economists believe that deficit is going to shrink in the next ten years or so and China will owe us. At the present moment China is rigging its currency to receive better deals on the world market and get ahead of the U.S. This is a crime and a violation of our trade treaty with China, but they don't care. They want a State Dinner. The WTO can go to hell. Just remember the gift bag with the presidential seal on it.
China consistently and openly steals U.S. intellectual property rights on everything motion pictures, books, music, electronics. It doesn't matter to them. They do this while we look straight at them. Another open violation of our lop-sided trade agreement. It will be mentioned to them after their State Dinner. They will probably get a big kick out of it. Our trade with China is so rigged as to be absurd.. We have given them a license to steal. But why?
Here in Massachusetts, we recently gave a computer company over $40 million in tax breaks to get itself up and running. When it was ready to work, it packed up and left for China. Recently U.S. corporations have been giving away protected technology to China just to get their foot in the door, get some of that 70 cents an hour labor. It is going up. you know. Your iPhone maker, Foxconn, recently had to raise its near-slave wage to 90 cents an hour after 12 workers committed suicide at the plant due to poor working conditions.
Now the Chinese say that wages will be rising at an even quicker pace. They have a lot of people over there and they are scared to death of the prospect of any open rebellion. Making matters worse, in this young generation of workers there are 20 million more men than women. That is never good for morale. Historically, nations with far less women than men have a distinct tendency to go to war.
Meanwhile no one is creating American jobs. Maybe they are waiting for some kind of parity in wages to exist between the Chinese and American worker. That is never going to happen. American jobs will have to be created and American workers will have to be paid American wages. Things have got to change. Obama has a lot of difficult choices to make. He is going to have to come through on the job front. The subject should comprise more than half of his State of the Union address.
While our nitwit Congressmen are arguing about health care up on the Hill and our President is wining and dining with Red China in the White House, a lot of American people are looking for a job. And Americans deserve some forward motion.
