BOURNE, MASSACHUSETTS — According to a Massachusetts State Police media statement, a drunk driver from Maine faces a slew of charges, including felony gun violations, after causing a serious two-car crash on the Bourne Bridge that injured three people and shut down the vital Cape Cod connector for over an hour. The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. last night on Route 25, when a Ford F-250, driven by Garret Mullen, 37, of Lewiston, Maine, rear-ended an SUV on the Bourne Bridge. The impact prompted authorities to close all travel lanes to allow first responders safe access to the scene, halting traffic until about 10:40 p.m. Three occupants of the SUV were transported to area hospitals. One victim required trauma care due to the severity of their injuries, while the other two sustained various injuries, according to State Police. During the on-scene investigation, troopers uncovered evidence that Mullen was impaired at the time of the crash and illegally in possession of a firearm. Authorities arrested Mullen, who now faces multiple charges, including felony operating under the influence (OUI) causing serious injury, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possessing a large-capacity feeding device, and possessing ammunition without a Firearm Identification (FID) card. Additional charges include misdemeanor OUI, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, speeding, and possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle. Mullen is expected to be arraigned Monday at Falmouth District Court. The incident disrupted traffic on the Bourne Bridge, a critical artery for Cape Cod, and highlighted the dangers of impaired driving and illegal firearm possession. HN NOTE: According to radio transmissions, there was a report that after the crash, something may have been tossed off of the bridge into the waters below… [DEVELOPING] According to the Bourne Police Department, the bridge was finally reopened to normal traffic at around 11:08 p.m. last evening.
