ABOVE HN PHOTO: A Hyannis Firefighter hustles to quickly get a line into play as restaurant patrons begin evacuating a smoke-filled dining room.   A quick update on the situation…     Additional Jakes arrive from Centerville bearing tools…      A Hyannis FD Captain takes command…          Firefighters quickly make their way onto the roof, checking for possible hotspots in the event fire had extended into the restaurant’s ceiling…    An engine arrives…    Still smokey…       Dinner had been great… while it lasted.   Meals were packed up to go…   Once crews were certain the fire had not extended into other parts of the building, a relieved Hyannis Firefighter cracked up laughing when HN pointed out that her face was covered with soot.  (As can be seen in the top HN photo, she was one of the first firefighters off the truck and into the building.  Good work young lady!)   ABOVE: Hyannis Fire Chief Peter Burke and Deputy Chief Jeffrey Lamothe jump in to help pack up Engine 2, so things would be ready for the next fire…  HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS  –  [HN PHOTO NOTES]  –  At around 7:00 p.m. last evening, Hyannis Firefighters and Barnstable Police officers rushed toward the Roadhouse Cafe on South Street for a report of an active fire inside the restaurant.  The first firefighters on scene found that most of the fire had been extinguished by employees.  When firefighters entered, however, they were astounded that most of the diners were still seated at their tables enjoying their food while smoke rolled across the ceiling.  The diners were ordered to evacuate immediately.  The fire had somehow started in one of the bathrooms, causing significant damage, according to sources.  Crews needed to quickly tear into the bathroom walls and ceiling to make sure the fire hadn’t spread further.  In the end, the fire had been successfully contained to the bathroom area, sources say.  The restaurant would need to be closed down for the remainder of the evening, as it was filled with smoke and needed to be ventilated.  There were no reports of injuries.  A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to take photos of the scene.  The Hyannis Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire… P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Pat Metheny… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
