If you goin’ up to the city You better have some cash ‘Cause the people in the city Don’t mess around with trash… ~ Mose Allison                       HN PHOTO NOTES: Shortly after midnight, police and firefighters rushed to a report of a fire in the doorway of the Encantare Underwear shop at 376 Main Street, in downtown Hyannis. A Barnstable Policeman arrived on scene first and knocked the bulk of the fire down with an extinguisher. Hyannis firefighters arrived and finished the job, while checking for extension into the building. A pile of large trash bags had somehow ignited. Some of the bags appeared to contain personal belongings, others appeared to contain rubbish. Witnesses said they heard some type of explosion from as far away as three blocks. It’s uncertain if the explosion caused the fire… or if the fire had caused something inside one of the trash bags to explode. The Barnstable Police and Hyannis Fire Department are investigating with the assistance of the sheriff’s crime scene unit…   HN PHOTO NOTES: Just footsteps away from the fire investigation, a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance crew assisted a homeless gentleman who had fallen and hurt himself, according to radio traffic. Earlier, the same man told HN that he had also heard the explosion… On any given overnight, homeless individuals in the downtown area can be found camping in shop doorways. Police have not ruled out whether the trash bags possibly belonged to one of the homeless camping in the Hyannis Business District. P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Mose Allison…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]
