“You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”   ~ An old Hyannis proverb   HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS –  According to a police report filed by Patrolman Andrew Mele of the Barnstable Police Department, on Tuesday (yesterday) – June 3, 2025 – at approximately 1:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to an address on Ocean Street for a report that an unwanted man named Brunno was unwilling to leave… and that he had a knife. Responding officers quickly located the “Brunno” in question riding a bicycle away from the residence. Brunno was detained on Ocean Street near the intersection with Nantucket Street as the investigation continued. While frisking Brunno for officer safety, a patrolman reportedly discovered and secured a steak knife which was tucked inside his waistband. According to Patrolman Mele’s report, Brunno is known to be a “low-level narcotics dealer.” And according to radio transmissions, Brunno has over 80 entries on his adult Board of Probation record. According to Patrolman Mele’s report, the lengthy record includes “several narcotics charges, unarmed robbery, assault to rob, larceny charges, A&B dangerous weapon, B&E Burglary, Threatening, Intimidation, and more…” Officers went to speak with and gather information from the parties who had just called them. Patrolman Mele’s report describes the allegations as follows: “Brunno had shown up at their house trying to collect money that he stated they owed him. They stated it was $100.00. When I asked what the money was for, they both got hesitant to answer my question. I then informed them that I know who Brunno is, and I know that he deals narcotics. [Redacted] then admitted that they use him as their dealer to buy crack cocaine, and he was there to collect money from the last time they bought crack cocaine off of him which was about a month ago. They stated that Brunno asked for the money that they owe him, and they told him they do not owe him money. They stated that at some point during this conversation, Brunno pulled out a knife from the area of his pocket/waist band. They stated he then pointed it at both [redacted] and [redacted] and they both stated they were in fear for their lives. Brunno then placed the knife on the table. [Redacted] then told Brunno they were calling the police and Brunno took the knife and left. When we asked what the knife looked like, [redacted] stated it was a ‘steak knife…’” The steak knife reportedly found in Brunno’s waistband was seized as evidence.  A crack pipe was also seized during the course of the investigation (NOTE: the police report does not specify who actually may have had the crack pipe). Brunno’s bicycle was transported back to BPD headquarters where it was stored in an exterior compound for safe keeping. Brunno Lacerda, 41, currently reported to be homeless on the streets of Hyannis, was arrested and charged with one felony count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (steak knife). * The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
