HN NOTES FROM THE OVERNIGHT 1.  POLICE PUZZLED BY GUNSHOT VICTIM DISCOVERED ON ROUTE 6 EXIT RAMP WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [DEVELOPING] – Yarmouth Police and Firefighters responded to Willow Street shortly before midnight last evening for a report of man with a gunshot wound. According to Yarmouth Police sources, a motorist discovered a man on one of the ramps to Route 6 suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. The motorist began driving the injured male to Cape Cod Hospital. While en route to CCH, a phone call was made to police. Police instructed the Good Samaritan to pull over on Willow Street in the area of Eversource, where police and EMTs began providing first aid to the patient. The patient was immediately transported to CCH in an ambulance as police began investigating what happened. The patient’s gunshot wound to his arm was not believed to be life-threatening, sources say. Massachusetts State Troopers were immediately alerted because the shooting could have possibly happened somewhere on Route 6. Meanwhile, investigating officers were having a difficult time gathering information from the patient because of a “language barrier.” Officers began checking Route 6, Willow Street (see above HN photo), and other Yarmouth locations for possible leads and evidence related to the shooting. Officers were also on the lookout for a potential suspect vehicle, but details regarding what actually happened and where the shooting actually occurred remain unclear at the time of this report… Deputy Chief Andrew O’Malley spoke with HN at Yarmouth Police Headquarters early this morning. He described a puzzling investigation that remains very much active and ongoing at the time of this report. [DEVELOPING – HN will provide official updates as they become available…]   2.  ECUADORIAN MALE KILLED AFTER VEHICLE SLAMS INTO UTILITY POLE IN HYANNIS… 2ND PATIENT IN CRITICAL CONDITION… HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [DEVELOPING] – At around 9:00 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters responded to West Main Street in front of Stop & Shop Gas for a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries. Arriving first responders reportedly found two male patients suffering life-threatening injuries. West Main Street was completely shut down in the vicinity of the crash as first responders worked the scene. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene to assist with photos. Accident reconstruction experts were also called to the scene. The vehicle was eventually towed to a garage at Barnstable PD Headquarters as the investigation continued. The utility pole was snapped at the base and an Eversource truck was on scene when HN took the above photos. Hours after the crash, a Barnstable Police source told HN that one of the occupants died from his injuries. The fatal crash victim was described as being from Ecuador. The second occupant of the vehicle was described as being in critical condition. The investigation is active and ongoing, and HN will provide official details as they become available… 3.  DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING AFTER MAN FOUND W/ MULTIPLE LIFE-THREATENING STAB WOUNDS IN THE MIDDLE OF RTE. 6… HARWICH, MASSACHUSETTS – [DEVELOPING] – At around 8:14 p.m. last evening, state troopers and Harwich Firefighters responded to Route 6 eastbound in the vicinity of Exit 82 for a report of someone suffering spinal and head injuries after they allegedly “fell out of a car.” First responders found a man suffering life-threatening injuries in the middle of the highway. A Medflight helicopter was immediately requested to respond to a landing zone at the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. While responding to the landing zone, EMTs could be heard describing the patient to the responding Medflight helicopter.   According to radio transmissions, the patient was described as a male, approximately 32-years-old, approximately 185 lbs., suffering “multiple stab wounds,” along with trauma from “exiting a moving vehicle.” At one point, the patient was described as having an “arterial bleed.” The patient was loaded into a Medflight helicopter and flown to an off-Cape trauma center. HN responded to the Massachusetts State Police barracks in South Yarmouth early this morning at around 4:00 a.m…   hours after the initial call.
