Of the thousands of photos I took in 2024 at national park locations here are my top ten photos of the year.   These may not be the best photos I have taken this past year but are my favorites.
  1. My favorite visit to a national park site this year coincides with my favorite photos of the year (also see #2 and #7). The Cape Lookout National Seashore (pictured above)is a delight including this scene of the Keepers House and the iconic Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

          2. Cape Lookout is also known for its wild horses. I was lucky on my visit to encounter several different groups including this trio.       3. I love to frame a building with a window or entry gate, such as this photo at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site.       4. Here’s another example of framing a building, this time with flowers in the foreground. The photo was taken of the Mission San Francisco de la Espada at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.       5. I had limited time at Zion National Park but took countless wonderful photos including this shot of the mountains and a roaring stream.       6. The Johnson Settlement is located within the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. My favorite photo from my visit is another example of framing the wooden fence with buildings and the covered wagon in the background.       7. Here’s another photo from the Cape Lookout National Seashore, which highlights the amazing Atlantic Ocean coastline. There were lots of people on the beach on the day of my visit, but this man and his dog caught my attention.       8. The Chattanooga National Military Park is unique among Civil War sites in that it is located within a city park. These kids walking in front of the park’s entryway piqued my photographic interest.       9. Seems natural to include the sea in a photo from the Padre Island National Seashore. It’s not my best photo of someone in the ocean but makes this year’s list.       10. I’m honestly surprised to include a photo from the Hopewell Culture National Monument but here’s one of the mounds covered with Ohio’s wildflowers.
