FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – According to a Falmouth PD media statement entitled, “Falmouth Police Department Investigates Serious Motor Vehicle Crash Following Attempted Traffic Stop,” last evening – Tuesday, 11/12/24 – at approximately 10:05 p.m., a Falmouth Police patrolman tried to stop a white GMC Sierra pickup truck. The pickup truck had been reportedly traveling on Old Barnstable Road near Backus River Road with a headlight out. When the Falmouth police officer turned around and approached to initiate a traffic stop, the pickup reportedly accelerated rapidly.
The Falmouth PD media statement continues as follows:
“The officer attempted the stop near Eagle Lane, activating lights and siren. However, the truck continued through the intersection of Old Barnstable Road and Carriage Shop Road without stopping. A nearby patrol unit observed the vehicle, and both units briefly pursued the truck northbound.
The GMC Sierra disregarded traffic signals, failing to stop at Hayway Road. Shortly after, it lost control, crossed into the opposite lane, and left the roadway, striking a large tree on Old Barnstable Rd.
Officers on scene rendered aid and requested emergency assistance from the Falmouth Fire and Rescue Department for life-threatening injuries.
Falmouth Fire and Rescue personnel extricated the driver and transported them to the Falmouth Hospital Landing Zone, where they were airlifted to an off-Cape trauma center. The driver remains in critical condition.
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations assisted with scene documentation and crash reconstruction. This incident remains under investigation, and updates will be provided as available.”
HN arrived at the crash scene, the patient had already been placed in an ambulance and transported to Falmouth Hospital to meet a Medflight helicopter. According to Falmouth FD radio transmission, the patient, said to be in his 40s, suffered multi-system trauma but was conscious and alert at the time of the particular radio transmission just prior to the airlift. His vitals were also said to be stable at the time of that same transmissions. Medflight was said to be airborne from Falmouth Hospital with the patient at around 10:56 p.m., approximately 45 to 50 minutes after the initial crash and extrication efforts.
As you will see and hear in the following “video,” the HN photos show a heavily damaged pickup truck which had just gone head-on with a large tree. The tree was snapped, and the GMC grill emblem was embedded in the snapped tree trunk. The front end of the pickup was completely caved-in. The truck’s chassis was bent and mangled. Prior to leaving the crash scene, HN was informed a crew with chainsaws had been requested to scene in order to cut the wreckage from underneath the large tree.
The following HN “video,” also contains police and fire department emergency radio transmissions…
