HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS –  [HN AUDIO NOTES]  –  Barnstable Police officers assigned to the downtown Hyannis area handled an extremely volatile situation last evening when they reportedly encountered a man with a knife to his throat!  He was threatening that he had a Glock firearm in his belt, according to radio transmissions.  Shortly before 10:00 p.m., Barnstable Police patrol officers assigned to the downtown Hyannis sector encountered a man that area police had been wanting to contact for a “well-being check,” according to police sources.  There had been a B.O.L.O. out of the Falmouth Police Department to check on the man.  Mashpee Police also had an interest in the case, according to radio transmissions.  As you will hear in the following HN audio, Barnstable Police patrolmen encountered the man at the Hyannis Transportation Center.  He reportedly was holding a knife to own throat when officers were attempting to reason with him.  At one point, the man threatened that that he had a Glock firearm in his belt as he reportedly went running along the train tracks toward the bus terminal.  Officers immediately shut down the area and were ordered to stop any arriving buses from entering the area of the bus terminal.  Dispatch reached out the Mashpee Police and learned that the man is known to threatened to have a firearm when he is intoxicated… and that he does not have known access to firearms.  This helped officers as they talked about using a shotgun chambered with beanbag rounds if necessary.  As you will hear, officers were able to contain the man and eventually take him into custody.  It’s unknown at the time of this report whether officers needed to deploy beanbag rounds to defuse the situation.  But as you will hear, the man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital inside a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance.  Police also responded to the hospital along with rescue.  A member of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit was also requested to respond to CCH.  The following HN “video” highlights Barnstable Police radio transmissions, along with Hyannis FD radio transmissions.  [HN VIDEO –  PRESS PLAY]
