According to the Barnstable Police report regarding the ongoing narcotics investigation focusing on Terry Burdick and Melissa Talbot, a detective applied for and was granted a warrant to search the residence at 22 School Street, Apartment #3, and to search any and all persons present. In addition, a separate warrant was applied for and granted for the search of Burdick’s person. These search warrants were obtained at around 10:20 p.m. on September 13, 2024. Due to the alleged facts and circumstances of the aforementioned investigation, a plan was reportedly established to utilize the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Counsel SWAT Team to execute the warrants during the daytime hours of Saturday, September 14, 2024…
… but as you’re about to read, there was a sudden change of plans due to an unexpected incident involving an alleged firearm outside of a retro arcade bar and grill in downtown Hyannis.
The Barnstable Police Detective’s report continues as follows:
“On September 13, 2024 at approximately 10:20 p.m. Barnstable Police Officers responded to Flashback Retro Bar and Grille at 294 Main Street, Hyannis MA 02601 for a fight. Upon arrival officers were met with several reporting parties who explained that a white male wearing red shorts, a backwards hat, and black short sleeve t-shirt brandished a firearm during the fight outside of 294 Main Street. Based on statements from witnesses, along with further investigation it was determined that the individual observed with the firearm to be Terry Burdick. A witness on scene also provided officers with a photo of the male who brandished the firearm, and through this photo investigators identified the male as Terry Burdick. Furthermore, through review of the cameras installed by investigators in the area of 22 School Street, Burdick is shown running back to, and entering the left side door at the residence of 22 School Street, Hyannis after the incident occurred.
Based on the above, due to the violent nature of the incident the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Counsel SWAT Team was contacted and [ ] updated with this new information. Due to the reported incident, and Burdick being observed entering the residence and not leaving the decision was made to activate the SWAT team prior to the original plan for the following day […] At this same time, Patrol Officer Lorne Fellows applied for and was granted an arrest warrant related to the incident at Flashback Retro Arcade Bar and Grille.”
And the rest was history…
… and as you will see in the following HN Video coverage of last week’s sprawling Hyannis crime scene, at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, the warrants were executed for 22 School Street, Apartment #3, along with Burdick’s person… and the SWAT team was successfully able to take Burdick into custody without incident.
During the search of 22 School Street, Apartment 3, investigators reportedly seized approximately 14 grams of suspected Fentanyl. U.S currency, baggies, and scales were also collected as evidence.
No firearm was located inside of the residence or on Burdick, according to police reports. Later, during questioning, Burdick denied being in the Main Street area near Flashback during the alleged brandishing of a firearm. He also denied ever being in possession of a firearm. But according to police reports, Melissa Talbot told a different story…
On Sunday, September 15, 2024, detectives conducted an audio and video recorded interview with Melissa Talbot. The detective’s report continues as follows:
“During this interview Talbot stated that she has seen Burdick in possession of a firearm within the last week. However, Talbot did not see Burdick with a firearm during Friday [evening’s] incident. Talbot explained that Burdick did return to the residence at 22 School Street Apartment #3 after the incident and told her that he had just stabbed someone on Main Street.”
Also, in a report filed by Barnstable Police Patrolman Lorne Fellows, not only was Burdick witnessed brandishing a firearm, but he was also reportedly heard racking the handgun. This reportedly placed witnesses in a considerable amount of fear. And at least one witness reportedly feared for his life.
Terry Burdick was reportedly charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm), Possession of a Firearm while committing a Felony, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Trafficking in More Than 10 Grams of Fentanyl, and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law.
Melissa Talbot was reportedly charged with Trafficking in More Than 10 Grams of Fentanyl, and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law. (Talbot’s booking photo was unavailable at the time of this HN report.)
* The details contained above are based on reports filed by Barnstable Police patrol officers and detectives. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
