Top HN photo: Barnstable Police patrolman Peter Ginnetty (left), looks on as a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit dusts for prints. Patrolman Ginnetty had taken the stolen vehicle report a short time earlier in the same midnight to 8:00 a.m. shift. Barnstable Police officer John York (right) was the patrolman who eventually located the stolen vehicle parked outside of an apartment complex on the west side of Hyannis. HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] –  An alert Barnstable Police patrolman was scouring Hyannis during the wee hours, searching parking lots and side streets when he spotted an SUV just stolen a short time earlier during the overnight. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier from the Arrowhead Drive neighborhood. Patrolman York located the stolen Ford SUV around 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Founders Court, 979 Falmouth Road, Hyannis. Officers will be looking into whether a backup key fob may have been left somewhere inside of the vehicle… but at the time of this report, it remains uncertain how the suspect(s) actually made off with the vehicle. Car theft has not been an unusual occurrence on the Cape in recent months. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:  “A motor vehicle was stolen every 31 seconds in the United States in 2023.  Use common sense when parking and exiting your vehicle: – Take your vehicle’s key; do not leave it in or on your vehicle. – Close and lock all windows and doors when you park. – Park in well-lit areas if possible. – Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle. Thieves want vehicle parts and valuable items, too.  Radios and wheel covers aren’t the only popular stolen vehicle parts thieves take. They want whatever sells, from the mandated labeled parts to those that aren’t. Some of the most popular vehicle parts or valuable items stolen from vehicles include doors, engines, transmissions, air bags, radios, GPS units, cell phones, iPads, laptops, and purses.” P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Tierney Sutton…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
