Above HN photos:  A young man examines his cellphone after driving a vehicle into a telephone pole in the East End of Main Street this morning, around 4:00 a.m.  He escaped uninjured but the pole holding up high tension power lines was heavily damaged and will need to be replaced.       A driver was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and crashed into some trees in Marstons Mills at around 3:00 a.m. this morning. The crash happened at the intersection of Asa Meigs Road and Newtown Road.  The Barnstable Police are investigating the cause of the crash.   Above HN photo:  There were several other crashes across the Cape last evening, but the worst crash was a multi-vehicle crash in Mashpee.  CLICK LINK to for the latest details and video from that crash scene.  The HN story is entitled, MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN MASHPEE, AT LEAST 3 PATIENTS… MEDFLIGHT CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER… OTHER HN PHOTOS FROM LAST EVENING:   Several Hyannis FD EMTs stop to help a homeless man who wasn’t feeling well last evening (including two firefighters who had been patrolling the downtown area on bicycles).  The man told HN that he has been living on the streets the past 5 years.   Muggy days are especially difficult…    Police and firefighters responded to Keyes Memorial Beach in Hyannis for a report of a homeless woman possibly overdosing or having some type of reaction to pills.  The woman, approximately in her 60s, was conscious and alert when first responders arrived.   “HIS LAST CALL”       Above HN photos:  Captain Jeff Huska of the Hyannis Fire Department retired earlier in the week after 40 years of service as a firefighter.  The top two photos show Captain Huska assisting an elderly woman who was just involved in a two-vehicle crash in Hyannis.  The photos were taken just two hours before Captain Huska officially retired. The third photo shows Captain Huska with his dad, who also served as a firefighter and fire chief in the town of Hanson.   Over the years, Captain Huska helped HN get the story correct at too many emergency scenes to count.  He was a tremendous help and always took the time to make sure HN’s readers knew exactly what had just happened.  (I miss him already.)  Thank you for everything, Jeff!  and congratulations on your retirement!   P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by The Charles Earland Tribute Band… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
